Zenith is a content management system which Network inherited from its merger with Bruce Davis Associates' web development arm in 2008. Network has worked to develop and improve the system to keep it in-line with contemporary standards. Network has developed a new version, 4.0, which will act as a user interface enhancement for the Drupal Content Management System. We have made this change to substantially improve the scope of the system, since it can make full use of available Drupal modules. It is designed to make the system more resilient since it engages with Drupal's in-built capabilities and is not reliant on bespoke code. Zenith 4.0 was publicly released in June 2009. One of the key features which we have preserved in Zenith, is the design for selecting page layouts. It allows site theme developers to specify blocks within their themes where users can add images without varying the layout, leading to complex user interfaces. Overall this yields better looking web pages, every time. Earlier versions of Zenith CMS up to and including 3.22 were designed around a data-centric paradigm, which means that individual objects are stored in distinct tables. Although this leads to a simpler system design overall, it can result in larger database being formed, which can result in reduced web site performance. Further, this introduces a number of issues, which Network has addressed with patches for the 3.x tree, such as the image ordering problem due to a low level of data validation. |

Following extensive work with the Open Source Community in the past, Network plans to release the Zenith 4.0 Content Management Add-on as a module for Drupal. This will allow more wide-spread testing of the system, and will give back some of our work to the community as part of an on-going sharing arrangement. |
